If you are driving, that should not even be a question. On Monday, FRA upper school students attended a fast-paced presentation by Nissan North America and the Governor’s Highway Safety Office on distracted driving and the importance of wearing a seat belt. The Think Fast presentation combines a game-show approach to the serious topic of teen driving and overall driving safety. The statistics are staggering: 1.6 million car crashes each year involve a cell phone When you listen to music or engage in conversation while driving, your focus is reduced by 40% 60% of teen deaths in car accidents are alcohol related 55% of teens surveyed nationwide say they wear their seatbelts all the time Average text takes your eyes off the road for 4.6 seconds; that is equivalent to driving the length of a football field doing 55 mph blindfolded Nissan is promoting a ‘red thumb’ campaign to remind drivers not to text and drive. The most powerful message adults can send to our children is to lead by example and save the texting for later!
